Narrative for Mount Auburn Hospital

Mount Auburn Hospital remains committed to Patients First and to improving the quality and safety of our patients' experience. The public reporting of our planned and actual staffing plans along with our comments allow us to provide a picture of our hospital performance.

Staffing is a high priority for the hospital and the levels are evaluated continuously throughout all the shifts. Consideration is given to the fluctuating census, the patient acuity and the experience levels of the staff. At times decisions are made to keep additional staff on the units and this can result in slightly elevated direct care hours.

In 2008 the hospital prepared for the opening ofa new building that included a new critical care pavilion with some additional beds, along with a new telemetry unit. Positions were created to accomodate the increased census. The staff were hired over the summer and trained so that we had the necessary staff to open up the new units in the fall. At times this resulted in slightly higher staffing as we blended the new orientees with the more experienced staff, thus resulting in higher direct care hours.
