Narrative for Mount Auburn Hospital

Mount Auburn Hospital remains committed to PatientCareLink and to improving the quality and safety of our patients' experience. The public reporting of our planned and actual staffing plans along with our comments allow us to provide a picture of our hospital experience.

Staffing is a HIGH priority for the hospital and the levels are evaluated continuously throughout all three shifts. Consideration is given to the fluctuating census, the patient acuity and the experience levels of the staff. At times decisions are made to keep additional staff on the units and this can result in slightly higher direct care hours.

New initiatives around implementation of electronic nursing documentation (ex. electronic flowsheets, electronic medication administration records, bedside medication verification) necessitate overstaffing during implementation for short periods of time. Also, we utilize a "train the trainer" model as these initiatives are rolled out to other inpatient units which results in increased staffing. At times this increase in scheduled staff result in higher care hours as well.
