Narrative for Fairview Hospital

Fairview Hospital is a Joint Commission accredited community hospital which has been federally designated as a Critical Access Hospital. As a small community hospital, Fairview experiences a wide variability in census for its Medical/Surgical unit, Critical Care unit and Emergency Department. Because of this, the nursing staff are cross-trained to competently work in the other units. For example, when the census permits a Critical Care Nurse will float to the Emergency Department when experiencing a high influx of patients or staffing shortage. Currently, travel-nurses are being utilized in the Emergency Department to help maintain appropriate staffing levels due to a few full-time nurses taking personal leave from work. With our staff's flexibility and versatility, supplemented by the few travel-nurses that we hire, Fairview hospital is able to maintain staffing at budgeted levels.
