As an acute rehabilitation hospital, Braintree's focus is the care, medical and rehabilitative management of the neurologically impaired patient. This is a time when the patient and their family are facing unplanned for adjustments to daily life. Support and encouragement is the unmeasured partner to expertise in rehabilitation. Keeping in mind our need to ensure that staff must have the time to adequately assess, plan and provide care we review our staffing needs and adjust to those needs daily. As much as we plan year to year the staffing requirements for each rehabilitation program, we are cognizant of the variables that each patient may present. Based on assessed clinical need safety measures for the neurobehavioral patient are implemented from the basic frequent safety rounds to providing one on one supervision. We also have a growing spinal cord program that requires intense hands on care with turning, repositioning and skin care/pressure relief. This translates into manpower hours. In evaluating at our effectiveness in staffing, we review our quality outcomes for each program monthly. This review process ensures adherence to recognized best practices and allows for the provision of compassionate care.
