Additional Unit Information: |
The Senior Treatment Unit provides care and support for adults ages 65 and over who have a variety of psychiatric conditions. These conditions include memory disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease, depression, anxiety, and other cognitive disorders that may cause behavioral difficulties. Treatment is provided in a safe and caring environment. Treatment programs and activities take place daily on the unit and include a multi-dimensional approach to wellness by combining individual treatment, group therapies, and medications. Daily therapeutic groups and activities include sensorimotor groups, occupational therapy groups, community meetings, spiritual care, and pet assisted therapy. At Butler Hospital, a team of mental health providers work together to help you return to health. Your family's involvement, and others who play a significant role in your life, is encouraged. They can be very important to the success of your treatment. However, no contact with your family or others will be made without your signed consent. Geriatric care at Butler carefully considers the effects of any physical problems, personal loss, emotional disorders, addictions, or neurological issues affecting the older patient. Staff in the Senior Treatment Unit at Butler offer a comprehensive approach to treating seniors. The unit was designed with a special focus on the safety of our senior patients and offers a warm, welcoming environment, including a naturally sun-lit dining room, a soothing mural, a salt water fish tank, and spacious, fully accessible patient rooms. |

Other Team Members: |
Mental Health Counselors on the Geriatric Unit require a CNA certification. |

There are many variables to consider in establishing safe, efficiently staffed hospital units. Patient care units differ based upon the types
of patients cared for on a given unit, and the way in which care is organized and delivered there. Education and experience levels of unit
staff, support from nurse educators and nurse managers also factor into unit staffing decisions, as does the unique characteristics and mission of each
hospital. It is also important to look at patient outcomes (including fall rates, pressure ulcer rates, and Hospital Compare measures related
to heart attack care, heart failure care, pneumonia care and surgical care) in the Performance Measures section of PatientCareLink.
