South County Hospital has achieved Leapfrog A scores, Double 5 Star rating by CMS, Joint Commission Disease Specific certifications for hips and knees, and stroke, American Heart Association Gold Level Rating from Get with the Guidelines Stroke Recognition Program, Pathway to Excellence, NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) designations, Rhode Island Intensive Care Unit collaborative top performer, Palliative Care and Hospice Programs, PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program, Member of the Schwartz Center, DAISY award partner, adoption of the High Reliability Organization methodologies and training, Women's Choice Award 2015-2018 for America's Best Hospital's for Obstetrics and patient safety. Emergency Room was awarded Level 3 Certification for Opioid Care for 2017.
 
 
Other Team Members:
Additional Care Team Members including Transport, Professional Development staff, Rapid Response Team, Respiratory Therapy, Nutritionist, Pharmacist, rehab activities, social services, Hospitalists and Intensivists are available to all hospital units, but are not unit specific. Behavioral Health professionals and 1:1 Patient Observers are utilized based on patient needs. Units have nursing students as assigned. Hospital Chaplin and additional spiritual services are provided by community clergy. Volunteer interaction and REIKI are offered as well as individual menu selection with personal preferences.
 
 
There are many variables to consider in establishing safe, efficiently staffed hospital units. Patient care units differ based upon the types of patients cared for on a given unit, and the way in which care is organized and delivered there. Education and experience levels of unit staff, support from nurse educators and nurse managers also factor into unit staffing decisions, as does the unique characteristics and mission of each hospital. It is also important to look at patient outcomes (including fall rates, pressure ulcer rates, and Hospital Compare measures related to heart attack care, heart failure care, pneumonia care and surgical care) in the Performance Measures section of PatientCareLink.
