The surgical volume was down slightly this year. There were slight vacancies in the unlicensed assistive personnel at time over the year. Staff from other units floated in and assisted with EKG's and blood draws for patients. Did not affect RN staffing hours.

Additional Comments
South 3 is a busy surgical unit where the majority of patients are elective surgery. The census peaks during weekdays and declines on weekends. Staffing is adjusted with the fluctuations and the surgical schedule which can result in lower actual care hours than planned.
