The use of UAP in the ICU is reflective of the patient needs. This variance was not anticipated in the budget process. The addition of UAP enhanced the care of the patients. If these hours were deducted from the total, the variance would be 14.5 hours per patient day and within the budgeted goal of 14.06 (3.34%)
