Other Reasons for +/- 5% Variance
The variance is due to the fact that we had a decreased length of stay while seeing an increase in acuity. In addition we only had one medical surgical unit which led to an increased activity related to admissions and discharges. The patient population is elderly requiring total care. All efforts were made to flex down when volume decreased but due to benefitted staff, this was not always possible.
