Martha's Vineyard Hospital is a critical access hospital, staffing is handled on a shift to shift basis. The ICU staffing plan is based on providing a qualified RN to care for 1 - 2 critically ill paitents. The patient census in the ICU is very low, when closed the nurses assigned to the unit are placed on call or floated to other clinical units requiring assistance.
