Based on Performance Improvement review the number of patients requiring acute rehabilitation presenting with significant safety concerns are increasing. It is apparent that how we managed patients requiring close supervision need to be reorganized. An interdisciplinary team came together to further develop the management structure of our behavior monitoring program. This included patient review by a neuro psychologist with the treating team twice per week to plan care and supervision stratagies that resulted in reducing the lenght of time that a patient would require 1:1 supervision. At no time did restraint use or fall rate increase related to timely reduction of 1:1 supervision. Further more the program experpienced growth related to the increased capcity to accommodate this patient population.. As we have all experienced the patient must appropriately move from one care setting to another, therefore a second look striking a balanced between patient safety and care efficiencies is an ongoing process.
