Other Reasons for +/- 5% Variance
We implemented the electronic medical/surgical flowsheet for documentation, along with the new electronic medication administration record/the bedside medication verification initiatives on Needham 7. Because this floor was the first one to bring these new systems "live", it took a longer period of time to work out the issues with them. We provided additional nursing support for an extended period of time until staff were completely comfortable with the electronic systems. The additional staff did cause a slight increase in the direct care hours.
