Nurse Manager helps out when staffing needs arise. Unable to carve out orientation hours, preceptor hours, council work, educator hours, transporting patients, emergency response calls (e.g. Code Blue, Code White) Unable to carve out class time (e.g. Dr. Armstrong, PALS, BLS) QA and other Performance Initiatives are performed by staff during their clinical work hours Each clinical department also has hours budgeted for a unit-based educator. The institution does not have a centralized education department Staff do EKGs after hours and respiratory treatments when required Staff also responsible for: insertion of catheters for VCUGs in xray; sedation and monitoring for MRI & CT scans; care of outpatients requiring IM or IV antibiotics or other injections, insertion of NG tubes and catheters for specimen collection or applying urine bag for specimen collection.

Closure of unit requires RN nurse still in Hospital - working elsewhere or doing administrative work such as QI or maintaining Lean M&S supplies.
