Additional Unit Information:
JENKS 4 EAST is a 27 bed telemetry unit providing care to a wide range of medical and surgical patients requiring monitoring and close observation. Major case types include cardiology, hematology, nephrology and postoperative orthopedic procedures. Additionally, post-procedure patients (i.e., cardiac catheterization) may be cared for on this unit. Some bed are utilized for short stay patients. Budgeted census is an average. Daily staffing is adjusted each shift for volume and acuity. RN Clinical level and experience is considered in scheduling and assignments.

Other Team Members: Nurse Manager has 24 hour accountability. Clinical Leader, Monday through Friday. This individual provides operational and clinical oversight assistance to Nurse Manager along with some direct patient care. This individual is not counted in direct patient care worked hours. The unit has a clinical pharmacist on the unit Monday through Friday on the day shift. Centralized pharmacy supports the operations on evening, night and weekend shifts. Residents for Orthopedic patients 12 hours per day. Physical Therapy provides two visits per day for Orthopedic patients. AT&T line available 24 hours/day for interpreting needs. There is also a contract for in person interpreters when needed, There is a Throughput Facilitator (RN) managing patient flow during the day, Monday through Friday. Nursing Coordinators assume this responsibility for off-shifts, weekends, and holidays
 
 
There are many variables to consider in establishing safe, efficiently staffed hospital units. Patient care units differ based upon the types of patients cared for on a given unit, and the way in which care is organized and delivered there. Education and experience levels of unit staff, support from nurse educators and nurse managers also factor into unit staffing decisions, as does the unique characteristics and mission of each hospital. It is also important to look at patient outcomes (including fall rates, pressure ulcer rates, and Hospital Compare measures related to heart attack care, heart failure care, pneumonia care and surgical care) in the Performance Measures section of PatientCareLink.
