Additional Unit Information:
Farr 10 is a medical-surgical unit which also cares for liver, kidney and pancreas transplant patients. Many of our patients have multiple co-morbidities, psychosocial issues and long lengths of stay.

Other Team Members:
Nurse management has 24 hour responsibility for the unit. Other supportive staff available for unit as needed include: Interpreter Services, Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist and Certified Wound and Ostomy Nurses. There are 29.15 FTEs of centralized Med-Surg float nurses and 7.2 FTEs of centralized Nursing Assistants which are deployed as needed to support patient acuity. There are 12.34 FTEs of centrally based patient care staff who are available to observe and protect patients at elevated safety risk.

There are many variables to consider in establishing safe, efficiently staffed hospital units. Patient care units differ based upon the types of patients cared for on a given unit, and the way in which care is organized and delivered there. Education and experience levels of unit staff, support from nurse educators and nurse managers also factor into unit staffing decisions, as does the unique characteristics and mission of each hospital. It is also important to look at patient outcomes (including fall rates, pressure ulcer rates, and Hospital Compare measures related to heart attack care, heart failure care, pneumonia care and surgical care) in the Performance Measures section of PatientCareLink.
