Other Reasons for +/- 5% Variance
SHC continues to experince and increase in patient acuity. We utilize the Quadramed nursing acuity tool to identify trends in acuity and adjust HPPD appropriately. In Feb 2014 the HPPD was increased to 8.1 for this unit due to a shift in patient need. Staffing needs are adjusted also for discharges and planned admissions. 3 South has also seen a change in patient population to include VAD and SCI/ventilator patients who require a higher RN mix to manage their acuity needs.
