As a small facility, our core staffing is at the minimum safe requirement at many times and cannot always be adjusted down for low census. In addition to lower than expected census, there are factors that are unaccounted for in this survey. Our staff may wear several hats and may be called upon to perform other duties. Critical care nurses are relied upon to perform float duties to other departments of the hospital and are also the core of our Medical Emergency Team response and must be available even when the unit is closed. They are also responsible for monitoring telemetry.
