Additional Unit Information: |
The MetroWest Medical Center Hospital, Natick Campus Intensive Care Unit accepts the critically ill medical, cardiac, and surgical patients who require close monitoring of telemetry, physiologic and/or laboratory parameters. Our patients often require frequent adjustment of medications or rapid interventions that cannot be provided in other locations of the hospital. It is necessary to outline the indications in our admission to and discharge from the ICU in order to best allocate hospital resources for appropriate patient care and safety. In our unit our patients are admitted to an Intensivist and specialty services are consulted as needed.
Recent recognition's include: 2017: Platinum Award: From the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR ACTION Registry, 2017: Gold Plus Achievement Award from American Heart Association/American Stroke get with the Guidelines, 2017 & 2018: Gold Plus Achievement Award from American Heart Association: Get with the Guidelines for Heart failure, and 2017: named by Health Grades as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award for Clinical Excellence in Hospital Wide, Critical Care, and Cardiac Care. Our most recent clinical achievements again from Healthgrades are: 5 Star Recipient for Treatment of Sepsis for 7 years in a row, 5 Star Recipient for Treatment of Respiratory Failure for 6 years in a row, and 5 Star Recipient for Treatment of Pulmonary Embolism for 4 years in a row.

There are many variables to consider in establishing safe, efficiently staffed hospital units. Patient care units differ based upon the types
of patients cared for on a given unit, and the way in which care is organized and delivered there. Education and experience levels of unit
staff, support from nurse educators and nurse managers also factor into unit staffing decisions, as does the unique characteristics and mission of each
hospital. It is also important to look at patient outcomes (including fall rates, pressure ulcer rates, and Hospital Compare measures related
to heart attack care, heart failure care, pneumonia care and surgical care) in the Performance Measures section of PatientCareLink.
