| Additional Unit Information: |
| 3 South is a 30 bed complex cardiac pulmonary unit. Patients are admitted directly from the ICU with post spinal cord injury requiring ventilator support, ventilator weaning and LVAD/end stage cardiac disease. Patient's receive complex medical and nursing care in addition to therapy services to increase their functional mobility. Pulmonologists from Brigham and Women's Hospital and Mt Auburn Hospital are available onsite as consultants to manage the high pulmonary needs of this patient population. |

| Additional Team members include Avasys monitoring technicians to provided 24/7 coverage for patients requiring visual observation. Also SHC had patient observers who can be assigned to provide 1:1 direct supervision for those patients identified at high risk for falls or removal of a medical device.
SHC has a Nursing administrative supervisor assigned to cover 4pm- 7am Mon- Friday and 24 hours on Sat and Sun. |

There are many variables to consider in establishing safe, efficiently staffed hospital units. Patient care units differ based upon the types
of patients cared for on a given unit, and the way in which care is organized and delivered there. Education and experience levels of unit
staff, support from nurse educators and nurse managers also factor into unit staffing decisions, as does the unique characteristics and mission of each
hospital. It is also important to look at patient outcomes (including fall rates, pressure ulcer rates, and Hospital Compare measures related
to heart attack care, heart failure care, pneumonia care and surgical care) in the Performance Measures section of PatientCareLink.
