Hours are budgeted for the unit-based educator because the institution does not have a centralized education department. Unable to carve out hours for orientation, preceptors, council work, patient transportation, response to emergency calls, class time (e.g. Dr. Armstrong training, ACLS, SANE training), SEF staff commitment (25%) at the main hospital as orientation. QA and other performance improvement initiatives are performed by staff during their clinical work hours. Staff do after hours EKGs. The ER technicians also frequently perform as 1:1 monitors when regular patient observers are unavailable or a hands on 1:1 is required, and these hours cannot be carved out.
