Additional Unit Information: |
Franciscan Children’s is a post-acute care facility. The care is provided to pediatric patients ranging in age from infants to adolescents (22 yrs.) encompassing a wide service area from within Massachusetts, other states and foreign countries. Our Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is among the largest in the country, and offers comprehensive care for infants, children, and adolescents with chronic respiratory conditions. Children with developmental needs who require oxygen, tracheostomy, and ventilatory support along with their families receive care on these units. Units 2 and 3 also provide care to patients needing Medical Rehabilitation services. This program embraces the child as a whole, and addresses their full spectrum medical, therapeutic, social, and emotional needs. Our program promotes social development and emotional well-being by incorporating frequent opportunities for age-appropriate play and leisure activities throughout the child’s stay and rehabilitation process. Each patient is assigned a treatment team which is specific to meet that child and family’s individual needs. The team, with the family work together to coordinate an integrated program of medical and rehabilitative care, while providing ongoing parent and patient teaching. Helping a child to reach their maximum potential functionally and developmentally is our number one goal, whether that is a transition to home or a long term care facility. To ensure that the progress made during rehabilitation continues, the team coordinates community support services, including educational, medical, nursing, and therapeutic services. |

There are many variables to consider in establishing safe, efficiently staffed hospital units. Patient care units differ based upon the types
of patients cared for on a given unit, and the way in which care is organized and delivered there. Education and experience levels of unit
staff, support from nurse educators and nurse managers also factor into unit staffing decisions, as does the unique characteristics and mission of each
hospital. It is also important to look at patient outcomes (including fall rates, pressure ulcer rates, and Hospital Compare measures related
to heart attack care, heart failure care, pneumonia care and surgical care) in the Performance Measures section of PatientCareLink.
