Boston Medical Center - Fast Track

Please note: MHA and our member hospitals are committed to delivering the most reliable, transparent data on staffing. Due to the extreme and unprecedented challenges that hospitals are facing through the COVID-19 pandemic, it is not possible to accurately capture staffing data representative of 2020 and 2021. Other healthcare authorities across the country have also suspended data collection over the course of the pandemic, including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). We look forward to resuming regular public posting of staffing plans and data in 2022 and 2023, should circumstances permit.

We welcome any questions about staffing data, which can be directed to Pat Noga, MHA's Vice President of Clinical Affairs at pnoga@mhalink.org.

Additional Unit Information:
Fast Track is open 7a tp 1130p Monday - Friday. Weekends it is open 8a - 830p. The staffing above is adjusted for the weekend staffing at 2 RNs and one UAP. The reported staffing plan above reflects staffing for anticipated admissions for the next shift.  We have a 24/7 staffing office that works directly with the managers and charge nurses to review and adjust staffing multiple times a day to account for fluctuations in volume and acuity, and to meet the care needs of our patients.

Other Team Members:
Resource RN - Critical care RN who is available 24/7 as needed to assist direct care providers with clinical patient issues. The Charge RN in the above staffing pattern takes a reduced patient assignment.

There are many variables to consider in establishing safe, efficiently staffed hospital units. Patient care units differ based upon the types of patients cared for on a given unit, and the way in which care is organized and delivered there. Education and experience levels of unit staff, support from nurse educators and nurse managers also factor into unit staffing decisions, as does the unique characteristics and mission of each hospital. It is also important to look at patient outcomes (including fall rates, pressure ulcer rates, and Hospital Compare measures related to heart attack care, heart failure care, pneumonia care and surgical care) in the Performance Measures section of PatientCareLink.
