Additional Unit Information: |
Jenks 5 East is a 29 bed medical/surgical, orthopedic unit.The primary patient population is orthopedic, mainly Total Hip & Knee replacement, along with some other surgical patients. The focus is post operative care including pain management, preventative skin care, rehabilitation, medication teaching, wound care and discharge planning utilizing community resources when needed.
Daily staffing is reviewed and adjusted each shift for volume and acuity. RN Clinical level and experience is considered in scheduling and assignments.
Volume is somewhat predictable because most surgeries are elective. Volume peaks mid week and drops beginning Saturday evening. |

Other Team Members: |
Nurse Manager has 24 hour accountability. Clinical Leader Mon-Fri. This individual participates in some patient care but is not counted in direct care hours. Centralized Pharmacy. Residents for orthopedic patients. Physical Therapy provides two visits per day for orthopedic patients. AT&T Line available 24 hours a day for interpreting needs. There is also a contract for personal interpreters when needed.
There is a central RN bed placement coordinator during the day, Mon-Fri. Nursing coordinators facilitate bed placement on off shifts and weekends. |
