Staffing based on an average acuity and workload but is adjusted for shifts in acuity and census, the clinical leader/charge nurse takes patient assignments. Nursing Leadership is provide by a Nurse Manager who has 24 hour accountability and an Off Shift Nurse Manager (Nursing Supervisor) every day from 3pm -7am and 7am-3pm for holidays. Nurse Educator provides ongoing nursing education; educator time is split between central-based educational programs and multi-unit based teaching. Precepting, orientation, training and competency educational program requirements require additional unit staffing. Clinical pharmacists are available to the unit for multidisciplinary rounding and as needed; central based pharmacists are available 7 days a week/ 24 hrs a day. Interpreter services are available 24 hrs/day, 7 days a week, including holidays and an IV Therapy nurse is available 12hrs/day 7 days a week. Psychiatrist provides evaluation and treatment planning during the day 7 days a week. Nurse Practitioner on day shift and Hospitalist on off shift provide support for medical interventions. An occupational therapist and two social workers are included in the care delivered to this population. |

There are many variables to consider in establishing safe, efficiently staffed hospital units. Patient care units differ based upon the types
of patients cared for on a given unit, and the way in which care is organized and delivered there. Education and experience levels of unit
staff, support from nurse educators and nurse managers also factor into unit staffing decisions, as does the unique characteristics and mission of each
hospital. It is also important to look at patient outcomes (including fall rates, pressure ulcer rates, and Hospital Compare measures related
to heart attack care, heart failure care, pneumonia care and surgical care) in the Performance Measures section of PatientCareLink.
